6 ways to get better teeth

The vital role our teeth plays in our overall nutrition and general health cannot be overemphasized, from swallowing food to the process of digestion, and as such regular dental care is paramount to maintain good health and longevity. The teeth’s function is to mechanically break down food items b cutting and crushing them in preparation for swallowing and digesting. Humans have four types of teeth: we have the incisors, canines, premolars, and molars, all of which have special functions they perform. The teeth are important for eating, makes you look better; it give you self-confidence when you have sparkling white teeth,  they also help with the speech from making a variety of sounds to holding your tongue in different positions to pronounce different words, the teeth have a marvelous structure. The teeth are made up of a multiple of tissues of various density and hardness, good oral and dental hygiene can help prevent bad breath, tooth decay, gum disease, and can help you keep your teeth in good condition as you grow older. A top dentist Dr. Sara Hurley suggests “that a visit to the surgery every two years will suffice, and that we should be responsible for keeping our pearly whites in mint condition in the mean time. A lot of people don’t like to brush twice daily, but I tell you it is necessary you see the buildup of bacteria in the gum that causes disease takes about 24 hours to develop, brushing twice a day disrupts the bacteria before it gets the chance to really screw up your gum, this would also help to prevent the buildup of cavities. Wash your mouth out

Another effective way to keep up oral hygiene as side brushing twice daily is using a mouthwash. According to the American Dental Association, mouthwash can be used for a lot of reason like simply used to freshen the breath, to control tooth decay. Some mouth wash can provide additional protection against cavities and rinse washed away food debris from the mouth.  There are various products to tackle particular problems any individual could be facing; Corsodyl (£5; boots.com) – the one with nasty ‘blood when you brush’ adverts – is great for improving gum health, while Colgate FluoriGard (£4.50; boots.com) saves your teeth by preventing cavities. Dr. Marques says “For general use, I recommend a non-alcohol mouthwash like Listerine Total-Zero, which freshens breath and prevents any gum problems or cavities,”

Mind the gaps

The American Dental Association recommends flossing once a day may help prevent cavities and gum disease, it helps to remove the sticky film called plaque. The plaque contains bacteria that feed on leftover food or sugar in your mouth, flossing removes this plaque from areas that the toothbrush can’t reach and by extension preventing tooth decay. “There is also a new method of using an air-flosser (£60; johnlewis.com),” says Marques. “Which targets between  the teeth and can be filled with mouthwash for an anti-bacterial boost.” The future is here, use it.

Get professional help 

Having regularly visits with your hygienist once every 6 months is going to go a long way in helping you keep your dental healthy, “A full clean with polish removes all stains and improves the color of your teeth,” says Marques. Good news if you’re a slave to morning coffee, or enjoy a crafty fag with that glass of wine.

All white on the night

A lot of people feel that whitening toothpaste alone is enough to undo damages completely; it can be used for minor surface stains on the teeth usually gotten from smoking, drinking coffee and medications. Its advantages are tremendous with whiter teeth you have more confidence in your smile. Avoid comedy choppers with in-clinic laser whitening. “It involves the application of a hydrogen peroxide gel to your teeth, which is then activated by a laser to lift stains,” says Marques. “And because enamel is porous it can reach the teeth and clean all the way through.”

Brace yourself

Braces are orthodontic treatment used to correct bad bites or malocclusion(teeth that are crowded or crooked) correcting the problem can create a nice-looking smile “There are two options,” says Marques. “Invisaline retainers (like a clear gumshield) or a new system called Incognita, which works like train tracks but are attached to the teeth.” Braces can make your teeth look better, and easier to keep clean. Straight teeth are easier to clean, hence better periodontal health.
