Men’s Grooming: Skin Care for Your Body

A lot of men when talked to about skin care just assume that it is just the face that is the focus but, that’s not the case the entire body is the focus here. Although most of the skin problems occur on the face for instance acne, age spots, flakiness etc. to avoid this you need to stock up on the right men’s grooming products for you so you feel and look good with the best skin care products to meet your particular skin type.

1. Bar Soap vs. Liquid Cleansers for Men

A debate between bars of soap over liquid soap has been on for quite some time now, for most men it is about preference, but research about skincare products show that liquid soaps provide no hygiene benefits, to me they make me use up more water, you have to have the right amount of liquid soap if you use too much, you will require more water to rinse off. But for most men it is more about what the soap looks and smells like, they usually don’t want any color or smell that is feminine for instance pink or flowery smells. “ Dee Anna Glasser, MD, a professor of dermatology at Saint Louis University, says. “ but frankly, just about every product out there works equally well for the skin.” So if you prefer a bar soap, pick the one which contains moisturizers and emollients like glycerin, vitamin E oil, olive oil, and joboba oil, so that they can nourish your skin.

A lot of men do not know the benefits moisturizers provider for the skin. The thing about skin care for men is that it requires very little to make a big improvement, “Kathleen M. Welsh, M.D., a San Francisco-based dermatologist. “So just using something other than bar soap or moisturizing twice a day makes such a huge difference.” Moisturizers cleanse the skin and boost hydration in the skin, it prevents flaking and dullness, and creates a protective layer of moisture that lasts all day depending on the moisturizer your using, in addition, proper application, especially on the face, will help anti-aging ingredients work better. As part of men’s essentials, moisturizers are important, when you focus on areas such as the knees, shoulders, lower legs and elbows, areas where the skin dries out. Another dermatologist Vic A. Narukar, MD, says, “Moisturizing you legs is particularly important, sometimes many men don’t think about it. Chronic dry skin, or xerosis, of the legs, can exacerbate eczema and cause the skin to turn a brownish, woody color as you get older. There is little scientific evidence that moisturizers protect the skin from oxidative damages. when applied at the recommended levels contained in the products. However, some botanical ingredients have healing properties. Aloe Vera is an example; it has been a constant ingredient in moisturizers and has been known to speed skin healing.

Dermatologist Carolyn Jacob, MD, says “some men can get by with a standard deodorant, but if you have trouble with excessive sweating, a condition called hyperhidrosis, you may need to spend extra money for a clinical-strength deodorant, “she says available over-the-counter, clinical-strength deodorants pack a higher percentage of active ingredients. What you should look out for is a product with aluminum chloride, that blocks the sweat gland (aluminum chloride causes stain on shirts). The benefits of deodorants; deodorants contain antibacterial that stops the stink caused by bacteria, it contains antiperspirants that deal directly with sweat although they don’t actually stop the sweating process. FUN FACT: while women have more sweat glands than men, men’s sweat glands produce more sweat. Some deodorants do not go 24hrs; you can also apply deodorants at night, this allows the aluminum chloride to diffuse into your sweat glands so that you can get that all day protection, A new skin care product out there for men is Botox Injections, it numbs the muscles around the sweat glands.
